Inception and Kaleidoscope announce first joint online VR film festival
The companies will be giving out a prize pool of $15,000 to winners, plus amazing distribution deals
The festival will be receiving submissions throughout the month of May, with winners announced June 14 on both partners platforms. Overall, the festival will be giving out a prize pool of $15,000 plus distribution and marketing deals to the films selected for the festival. Creators looking to submit can apply for free here.
This is the second collaboration for Inception and Kaleidoscope, who first joined forces Nov 2017 by signing a VR deal that launched Kaleidoscope’s channel on the Inception app, celebrating indie creators and their work.
Kaleidoscope runs an invite-only community to help secure financing, distribution and exposure for premium VR content. Inception has a top cross-platform app that is in the world’s top-5 apps for premium VR content, and a top VR creator in itself.
Together, parties believe that the release of this online film festival is another way to fulfill their joint mission – to get as much premium VR content produced, celebrated and enjoyed by the masses.
“We’ve been working with Inception for quite some time now, and we believe they are the right partner to work with on getting our content distributed,” said René Pinnell, Kaleidoscope CEO. “Together, we will be looking for innovative content that we can award and celebrate on the Inception app and within the Kaleidoscope community. We’re all about celebrating the creators and their work.”
“Kaleidoscope was responsible for producing the first virtual reality festival in 2015, they are pioneers in the field and an amazing partner to have,” said Benny Arbel, Inception CEO. “We can’t wait to see the films submitted and hope that this festival can become an annual event. Creators are the ones who keep the market going right now. What’s VR without the right content, and what’s the right content without the right audience?”.
The Inception VR app is available for download across platforms: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Microsoft MR, Samsung Gear, Google Daydream, Sony Playstation, iOS and Android, and starting May 1st, also on Oculus Go – as official launch partners.
Inception is a leading next-generation immersive (VR/AR) content network, combining unique proprietary technology, a best-in-class creative studio, and a cross-platform destination app. Inception has received a strategic investment from RTL Group and is the VR/AR arm of the Group.
Inception launched in October 2016, and has apps for Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear, iOS, Android, Google Daydream, HTC Vive, and Microsoft MR, Sony PS and Oculus Go. It has over 1.2 million downloads and a vibrant community of active daily users.
Established in 2014, Kaleidoscope is a funding platform for premium VR films, games, and experiences. Stemming from high-profile events around the world, we have built a global network of top VR creators and industry leaders. In the last year, Kaleidoscope has raised nearly $4MM for original virtual reality projects including the SPHERES: Songs of Spacetime, starring Jessica Chastain and executive produced by Darren Aronofsky, which landed the first seven-figure deal for a VR film at Sundance.
